uPals Wellness Promotion Team
The university journey may be challenging, but you don’t have to manage it alone. In order to build a welcoming, supportive and accommodating campus, the Wellness and Counselling Centre of the Office of Student Affairs launched the uPals Wellness Promotion Team in 2020, which focuses on mental wellness promotion and strengthening peer support atmosphere. uPals will undergo around 40 hours of training, work together to plan and implement mental wellness campaigns to promote supportive, fun and caring service projects on campus. All training and workshops are conducted in English.
Eligibility
If you are a full-time non-final year undergraduate student at The Chinese University of Hong Kong, and you:
- are interested in learning effective communication and helping skills
- wish to organize some fun events focusing on positive lifestyle and mental health with local and non-local students
Roles and Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the counsellors of the Wellness and Counselling Centre, uPals are going to deliver service projects directed on promoting wellness:
- Strengthening students’ mental health awareness
- Encouraging positive caring actions
Training and Activities
- Adventure Training Camp (3-days-2-nights overnight camp)
- Basic Helping Skills Training (6 hours)
- 2 Wellness Workshops (4 hours)
- Mental Health First Aid Standard Course (12 hours)
Qualifications
Upon completion of the training components and service projects, uPals will obtain the following qualifications:
- CUHK uPals Certificate
- Mental Health First Aid Certificate
- Eligible for the election of ‘Best Service Project of the Year’ and ‘Best uPals of the Year’
- The qualification obtained will be recorded in the Student Development Portfolio (SDP)
