“Walk with You” Suicide Prevention Campaign
Wellness and Counselling Centre (WACC) of the Office of Student Affairs is dedicated to promoting mental wellness and has launched the “Walk with You” Suicide Prevention Campaign in 2025. This initiative aims to take a proactive and systematic approach to suicide prevention, helping students manage stress, build resilience, and nurture self-care and self-seeking behaviour.

QPR Gatekeeper Training for Suicide Prevention
As part of the “Walk with You” Suicide Prevention Campaign, the Wellness and Counselling Centre (WACC) of the Office of Student Affairs (OSA) is offering the QPR Gatekeeper Training for Suicide Prevention—a globally recognized, certified program developed by the QPR Institute.
QPR stands for Question, Persuade, and Refer — the 3 simple steps anyone can learn to help save a life from suicide. A gatekeeper is anyone who can recognize a crisis and identify the warning signs that someone may be contemplating suicide. Everyone can have the power to save a life by acting as a gatekeeper – including YOU.
This 2-hour training will equip participants with essential skills to support others in times of crisis. Participants will learn how to:
– Question individuals who may be struggling
– Persuade them to seek help
– Refer them to appropriate support services
– Recognize warning signs of suicide
– Understand common causes of suicidal behavior
Upon completion, participants will become a certified QPR Gatekeeper and receive a certificate issued by the QPR Institute. Led by certified instructors from WACC, this training is a meaningful opportunity to gain life-saving knowledge and contribute to a more caring and resilient CUHK community.

Life Education and Bereavement Care Groups
At various stages of life, individuals inevitably encounter a range of challenges and difficulties. University students, in particular, experience unique stressors during this formative period of growth and transition — including academic demands, identity development, relationship changes, and, at times, experiences of loss and bereavement.
In response to these needs, the Life Education and Bereavement Care Groups aim to promote students’ holistic wellness and resilience through experiential learning, peer support, and reflective practices. These groups offer a safe and supportive space where students can cultivate emotional awareness, develop self-compassion, and learn to navigate life’s inevitable hardships and uncertainties.
In particular, the groups seek to identify and respond to the specific needs of students who are coping with grief or in need of bereavement care. Through mutual support and shared experiences, participants are encouraged to acknowledge their emotions and inner struggles, maintain “continuing bonds” with those they have lost, and move forward with renewed meaning and inner strength.
This initiative also forms part of a broader suicide prevention campaign, with the goal of fostering a compassionate, mentally healthy, and connected campus community — one that strives to “see the unseen” and support students in times of silent suffering. Within this framework, two counselling groups will be conducted during the 2025–2026 academic year.
